The Melody of English: Intonation & PPS

Intonation signals to your audience that you are connecting thought units or ending them.  Proper intonation and phrase stress should lead your listeners along so they can easily understand your message.

In this 2.75 hour course, you will learn:

  • proper breathing techniques that sync with your intonation

  • how to divide vowels into parts that move up and down in pitch

  • beginner & advanced intonation patterns 

  • how to divide sentences into logical parts  

  • how to choose the most important word (PPS) to stress

  • how to use intonation on the PPS 

Melody Rectangle No Words

In this course you will:​​

  • Learn the lessons through charts, stories and conversations. 

  • Practice the lessons by listening to and repeating sentences over and over with the repetition audio recordings.  Repetition practice improves your observation skills, listening and muscle memory.  

  • Print out the written material for note taking and guiding yourself through the practice audio.

  • Be able to message the instructor with questions.

  • Receive live instructor feedback during monthly office hours on Zoom 

  • Have the opportunity to simultaneously study the instructor's other courses: 1) Rhythm, 2) Word Stress, 3) Vowels or 4) Consonants.
